Received well wishes from Sechelt friends...
Thank you for your email. It was good to know you received my letter. He didn't know I sent it and was really happy when I read your email to him. We all had a laugh about the "flirting with nurses" cuz you must know my dad really well. Since he has been able to talk he tell me all about it and I brought his "Hug a day keeps depressions away" shirt to the hospital right after his surgery. It was so funny tonight as he had to tell me he had two baths in one day! Once on the morning shift and again in the afternoon shift. I said did you tell them you already had a bath and he said to me no - what the hell, I am not going to complain and it was a really good bath too! and we had a good laugh over that alone.
He has told me that he doesn't have any friends in Sechelt, but I have been proving him wrong. Several people I have contacted and contacted me to wish him well.
Dad is already thinking of new stories and is looking forward to getting mobile again. He is spasming all over the place now so that's a good sign. Who know's what will happen. I said in the letter we believed he was a Quadraplic - a complete injury but now they have said it's an incomplete injury as his spinal cord has more room to move and is activley sending messages to his legs. He still has more spasms in his legs than arms but he said tonight when I scratched his arm it felt feathery. Hmmm.
Anyway, just like dad and always the kidder - I was given plush "Minnie Mouse" ears
from a friend today who just came back from Disneyland. I took them to the hospital to show dad and I put them on. The nurses came in and were laughing at me then and when dad heard more where coming in to see I put them on dad. The whole ward was in his room and we were all laughing with him and he was in all his glory. I will get a picture to send you. He asked when he can get into his wheelchair and when I can take him downstairs for a change of scenery if he can wear them! I said of course cuz other people will smile and it will make them feel good and besides we all know laughter is the best medicine! I have the same kind of humor as dad so I am not afraid to walk around the hospital with him with is Minnie (not Mickey and complete with bow!) ears on!
If you happen to find any funny jokes or even big gag toys let me know - I want to pick up stuff like big pencils, gigantic playing cards and bean bags for him to play with when he has visitors. It's fun therapy for him too!
Anyway I should let you go, I am sure you are really busy. I love to type and this will come in handy when dad wants to dictate new stories to me. I told him about the speach recogniction word processors for computers they have now and I have to look into getting him one sooner than later cuz he is ready to write.
Thanks again for your email and kind words - it's posted on his bulletin board in his room for now and I will bring in your card when it arrives.
